Make a difference at least in some small way.
This has been the foundation on which we've built the UNITY project and what carries it forward year after year. This year, however, feels more urgent.
Thus, for example, a feeling normally as individual as the ache of separation from those one loves suddenly became a feeling in which all shared alike and — together with fear — the greatest affliction of the long period of exile that lay ahead.
You hadn’t planned on a pandemic. Your plans were reserved for family trips and events, long group rides or those types of big races or fondos that end with lunch on paper plates and a beer or three. Likely too, you had still less formal plans that included hugging your friends; you expected, at some point this spring, to share a bottle of wine at dinner with people beyond your immediate family. These losses are isolating before measures like social distancing are in place.
Yet, if the weeks of this crisis have taught us anything, it’s that we aren’t alone. We’re unified in our fight against the virus and our battle against the fear that comes with a global pandemic.
This year’s Unity Jersey is aimed to give aid to those who need it in these times. 100% of the profits from the effort will support three non profit organizations. Save the Children / No Kid Hungry, Project C.U.R.E. and The Coronavirus Relief Fund, all crucial nonprofits aimed at stemming the impact of COVID-19.
The design of this year’s Unity Jersey reflects our position. It’s inspired by images of Dutch tulip fields taken from above: broad swaths of color so artful and impacting they inspire awe. Yet standing alone in each field, it’s impossible to see the effect of each individual tulip. There’s merely the flower or row of flowers in front of you.
We’re bound together in this crisis, this fight, this place on earth at this time and together, we make up a beautiful swath of humanity. The measures to fight the virus - social distancing, purposeful withdrawal from each other - are lonely, and yet the voluntary decision to make these changes means that, like those fields of flowers, the view from above is preserved, that we, as a global community, are more unified than ever.
Preorder has closed.
Jerseys are expected to ship by August 1, 2020.
For 2020 we've selected 3 charities that embody our mission with UNITY and are dedicated to supporting our global community in navigating the COVID-19 crisis. Their work is invaluable and your help is critical. If you're unable to contribute through the jersey pre-order, please consider donating to them directly in the links provided. Anything helps and we all benefit.
With social distancing measures in place, children are losing instruction time, key early education opportunities and meals. Save the Children and their partner, No Kid Hungry, is setting aside grants to support children affected by school closures as a result of COVID-19 mitigation. Unity funds will directly support these efforts.Go to website
Through the COVID-19 Crisis, Project C.U.R.E. is making resources available to the hospitals and first responders in Denver, Nashville, Phoenix, Houston, Philadelphia, Kansas City, and Chicago. Unity Jersey funds will aid in the donation of masks, gloves, PPE’s and other items needed.Go to website
This crisis threatens everyone's way of life, but it is especially difficult for people who are already vulnerable. Unity funds will support direct action and response to communities with money to support doctor and nurse transportation, masks and PPE, key support in quarantined communities and refugee camps, food for children in schools and more.Go to website
Each year since 2017, we've developed a jersey that speaks to the initiative we focus on, an issue that requires us to come together to work for a greater good. See past editions below.
