Road racing is beautiful. The bikes are sleek, elegant, and simple. In many ways I think the visual of road racing is what brought me to it many years ago. Mountain biking is messier. Maybe that’s why it took me a decade of road racing to find it. But it’s given me renewed motivation to race and train but even more importantly to simply explore.
That desire to simply take a new turn just to see where it goes sometimes get’s lost between the sets of intervals. It’s hard to fit this kind of riding into the life of a bike racer sometimes but it’s worth trying. As the summer drew to a close, my XC season wrapped up, and I loaded up all the bikes and headed for the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont with Krista, my partner.
