How does cycling fit into your life? How would you explain your relationship with cycling?
After retiring from professional cycling at the end of 2013, I’m enjoying riding my bike for fun. It’s nice to have no restrictions, always be able to ride with other people or on nice routes not based around where efforts need to be done! I feel like my relationship with cycling is very different to how it was previously but it’s really nice to enjoy it from a different perspective.
Favorite places to ride and why.
At the moment into Surrey, or anywhere outside of London where I can see some grass and smell fresh air! I also love riding in the area around Girona, where I lived last year, the ride along the coast from St Feliu to Tossa de Mar is one of my favourites.
What does the future hold for your cycling?
I plan to use my bike to keep fit and socialize in my new base of London over the next year. In the future I can see myself using my bike to travel and go to new places around the world. I’d love to do some kind of round the world trip or ride through every state in the US!
What does advocacy mean to you? How do you share cycling?
It’s about trying to show other people what I love about the sport and encourage more people to get involved. For me cycling’s still a great social activity and a way to explore new places, as well as keeping fit and it definitely beats being on the treadmill. I think often it’s something people just need a little encouragement to try and when they do they realize they love it.
Design or artistic influences. Who compels you?
I love to watch the TV show Grand Designs! And obviously Banksy is a big deal in London and is kind of cool, but aside from that I’m not massively into that kind of thing.
Last book read: The Happiness Advantage
Soundtrack to your next ride: Phantogram – Eyelid Movies
Must have media (TV, film, etc.): I’m just starting out on the TV series Breaking Bad.
Most liked Velocio piece so far:
Not only does the high vis Mid Jacket look and fit nicely, but it also accommodates my safety conscious side! It’s perfect for here in London.
